On Paper
a short film directed by Nicholas Nazari and produced by Itinerant Works

The UK is frantically trying to contain its immigration flows by raising the bar on all criteria and increasing the number of boxes to tick in order to be allowed entry. However, its liberal culture based on individual freedoms and the Christian tradition of praising family values generates a flaw in the system: obtaining citizenship through marriage. The UK government has thus decided to crack down on what it has labelled “sham marriages”, developing wholesome procedures with the aim of establishing the authenticity of relationships. The result is a surreal attempt to trace the intangible, providing sets of guidelines and procedures to find paper-trails, shared experiences and other elements that will constitute hard proof of a true love.
